As we hoped, the full video of the Madone introduction at the Milwaukee Art Museum is now online.

Loved the commentary but I'm still wondering what the average weight reduction is going to be?
What's the weight of a medium sized frame? What's the weight of a complete build?
These are important facts that simply weren't mentioned.
Jason - Our 56cm Red fuselage weighs 1428g (fuselage = frame, fork, seat cap and bb and headset inserts). This is 210g lighter than the '07 56cm Madone SSL package (frame, fork, seatpost, bb and headset). Therefore, a complete bike would be 210g lighter in 2008 than in 2007 if they were both built with the same components. -Scott Daubert
Am I reading this correctly...?
You are making just the pro-fit framesets available for only the 5.2 (black/blue) and 6.9 (black/organe)? I can't order the 6.5 (black/red) as just a frameset?
At this time, you are correct. But, on January 1st out Project One site will go live and you can pick whatever colors you want. -Scott Daubert, Trek Road Bike Brand Manager
You have a market winner with the Madone 5.2 - a compact frame with Ultegra SL compact chainset at what I presume to be a competitive price. Shame about the wheelset, just need to upgrade I guess.
Will the costs of the new Madones reflect that of 2006 models or will we see an increase in price?
On average the prices will be less than 10% more but look at how much more bike you get for your money: new fork technology, net molded sockets in the bb and headset, stiffer bb and lighter, user-friendly seat mast. -Scott Daubert
I do not like integrated seatposts, limited adjustment, OEM only replacment and not much performace advantage. I do not like compact geometry but I have not ridden these particular bikes so I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now...
BTW- Treks now look like every other bike, Orbea Specialized ect.
Oversized Headset and BB NICE! Of course, Gary Klien was doing that 15 years ago.
I own a 2007 Madone 5.9SL and love it. I am intrigued by the weight but will reserve judgement for after my test ride.
Great bike, difficult to top this one. Hope the Disco boys will be kicking competition even more so. Can't wait to get my hands on one (here in EU). What's the story behind the (still not) replaceable dropouts?
Yes looks great, the bottom bracket I guess is a natural evolution as weve been upsizing since the square spindle went out of fashion. Integrated seatposts I think are "fashion" and well eventually go back to normal seatposts. As for headsets I have a Kuota with a similiar design and I believe Principia were the first. I still am amazed that hub widths stay constant, Why dont they make these narrower? Also why dont we just make steering using a leaf type spring and do away with the headset. You could then narrow the front end down and cut drag?
I went out for my 1st spin on the new madone yesterday and was blown away, I went up my favourite climb out of Dublin, sitting down felt good but nothing amazing, as soon as I got out of the saddle it kept on telling me to accelerate, go go go, my legs on the other hand said no no no..........I kept control of myself until about 1k from the top, I gave in and dropped 1 gear after another and it just kept on going and going, easily the most responsive bike I have ever ridden. I have had days when my legs felt awesome in the hills and you want to attack, yesterday the legs felt dead but the bike made me crazy..........go go go....unbelieveable!!!!! I came home on a massive high.
Entirley serviceable. They slip directly into the Precision Fit Socket locations without any special tools. Simply lube them up to protect them from surface corrosion and place them in the frame. -Scott Daubert
Hi there,,,,
I can`t believe what I see..
I always used to say, that trek had a best design in the world, beating off every other bike brand, But now you cracked !!
Don`t get me wrong, but new madone doesn`t taste good. I can`t get used to it.
I like current model.
Good luck in the future for trek company,, you`re still the best.. AD..
I am the proud owner of 5 different Trek bikes. Yesterday I was given the distinct pleasure of riding the new Madone at one of your demo days at the local dealer they were none to pleased when I rode back in the lot over an hour later with there prized ride, but not to worry by friday I will own six Trek bikes thanks for keeping the high standards and cutting edge technology going.
When will the pro frame be avaiable in Australia, how do they go under load in a sprint?
Ya need to do something with the colour range in the pro range, something simple like the black and white bike you have in the Performance fit is the way to go Performance madone 6.9 5.2 , so much so your web site promotes it.
Chris - No saying when the '08 Madones will hit your shores but I'm sure Tony Cook and Co are working hard to get them there soon. We did change the color of the 6.9 from Orange to white on black - just like the 5.2 Performance fit bike. -Scott Daubert
I love the new technology of the new Madone! Trek, you made big changes this time! When I heard about the new Madones I thought that Trek had reinvented the bike! Excellent job Trek! I sure want one, but my '07 Trek 2100 with Ultegra parts just seems too reliable! What more of the the Madones?!
Come on you guys are killing me! Just when I get my 06 Madone finally fit and feeling like my second skin...you do this to us? Awesome piece of art! Thank you Trek once again..(although my wife will ask me again "what is this Road Charge Company" on our credit card so please mum is the word if she calls....
I obviously don't know how the bike rides, but I definitely don't like the compact-ish geometry and the sloping top tube. I prefer the classic lines of the outgoing model.
I bought my new 5.2 Madone on June 25, 2007, from the Bike Barn Katy, in Katy, Texas. I truly enjoy this bike. I got the bike after I got into biking after my bout with non hodgkins lymphoma cancer of the neck and throat and my knee surgery. I first purchased a 7500 Hybrid and then a 2.1 Pilot. I want to spread the word about your bikes and what they have done for my physcial well being. I hope to get more people in the Katy, Houston, Texas area involved in biking. I hope one of these days to come to your plant to see how the bikes are made.
John Burke...thanks for the tools to train our staff on the latest technology from the engineers at Trek. The NEW MAD-ONE is going to be a hit with the roadies. Thanks for spending the R&D dollars and other resources to make the new Madone a road bike to aspire for.
Very nice looking bike!! it's a shame that this bike has been released one year to late, cannondale has released this tech awhile ago, ie, head set size 1.5. while Gaint had the seat tube tech out, also a lot of rider owned bmx companines have had this wide bb set up to now for some time. Ago nice bike, going to be interesting to feel the ride once one gets to oz. Trek has shown streght and proven it's self in the carbon push, and on the road in tours around the world. looking forward to it been may be a bike that i buy early next year.. Rideon!
Gene - Actually, the 2008 Madone's headset and BB designs are unique and should not be compared to other brands. Our bearings nest directly into precision pockets molded into the frame (no aluminum inserts or threads here). Our No90 fork technlology eliminates sharp bends, which is something carbon doesn't do well. Additionally, there are no specialty tools required to assemble the headset or BB on the new Madone. This eliminates the need to machine or thread any part of the frame and fork. Yes, other brands had had wide BB dimensions before us but no one has been able to take advantage of the width by maximizing the width of the chainstays at the back of the BB or optimizing the size of the downtube on the front of the BB. - Scott Daubert
The new Madone looks great! One question I have is why is it that we never hear anything about the Y-Foil when speaking of innovation, it's like that bike is the black sheep of the Trek bicycle family. If anything, I thought it was a huge step forward in bicycle design, incorporating state of the art technology with the most futuristic frame design ever seen. I love my Y(would never sell it), and will probably get a new Madone as well, can't ever have too many Treks. Great job Trek!
Trek was my first choice as my physical therapy bike (keeps me sane in retirement). I truly appreciate the thought and tlc put into the Madone project, especially for keeping its cost level on the entry side where old guys like me will benefit from the same technology as the pros.
I still can not believe that I rode the new Madone just two days after this press-conference!!! I rode Madone at the Blue Mounds state park during TREK demo day… Nobody was there, because of scattered thunderstorm warnings. So I and my fiancé went for a joyful ride.
The experience riding was truly amazing, hands down the best road bike I have ridden. I hope my fiancé will keep her promise to get me Madone 5.2 for Christmas…
That’s all for now... I will better go and be a good boy-hoping for the generous Santa.
