As you may know Lance Armstrong has been spending some time in New York. In fact, he has been spending so much time in the city that he asked Trek for a New Madone specifically for New York City. When you are in New York City, Taxi's are ubiquitous but there is only one Taxi that will be carrying Lance on his rides around the city; Check it out......All he needs now is a cabby's license to drive it in the city.

Valve stems long enough?
EJ LEVY
We make tubes that do not need a valve extender on even the deepest section wheels, which is nice. That also means that when you are in desperate need of some tubes short notice, you might get long valve stems, even if you are Lance....

Nice. Very nice. I'll bet some XXX lite carbon hoops would complete the look, but somehow I can't picture Lance with a cable lock...

NYC? I suggest a Portland with a custom Livestrong paint job.

Lance will get beat up riding a sissy bike like that. Only fixed gears survive in New York.

I can never imagine Lance riding a cab. How about a limo?

One question..will Trek offer this color combination on the new Madone? If not...why not? It's a beautiful color combination...much nicer to look at than some of the other Madone colors. Also, when will the Project One incorporate the new Madone??
I test rode the new Madone at Interbike in Sept..felt like a canon between my legs on climbing...nice ride..I want one..but not in the colors offered.

Is that seatpost a tall cap? It looks longer than that, maybe custom?
Francis - nothing custom on this bike other than the paint. The seat cap is a 160mm "tall" cap Trek offers as an option. -Scott Daubert, Trek Road Bikes Brand Manager

Scott,
Per your response to Francis on the 27th...you mention that the seatmast is a 160. I am curious why. I noticed a few riders during the tour had the tall mast as far down as it would go as well....does this stiffen up the feel at the seat and do away with some of the verticle compliance that was built into the frame?
-r
Robert - Great question. The reason the team was running tall caps was based on availability. We sent them more talls than shorts. The height of the cap on the mast, regardless of it is a tall or short cap, has no affect on the vertical compliance engineered into the system. -Scott Daubert, Trek Road Bikes Brand Manager

So...is the long mast on the taxi bike yet again a supply issue? C'mon...give up the 'real' reason!!!! Is it becuase it "looks" more traditional (to have the seatpost clamp close to the top tube)?
I am not trying to bust anyone's chops...I am just curious!!!
The Long Mast on the Taxi bike has nothing to do with look or supply issues. It is typical for us to stick with what works for Lance. The first bike we supplied to Lance had a long mast, so from now on we will likely always supply him with a long mast; consistency is appreciated by most.

You better get some reflective gear on that bike if you are planning to ride it in downtown!

What's the size of Lance's rig, is it a 56 or 58 and also what is the length of the stem. Congrat's on making an awesone rig for Lance and hopefully everyone else.
He rides a 58cm Pro Fit Madone.

Hi Scott.
My question is regarding cold temperature riding.I have a Madone 5.2,and live on southern Ontario,Canada. When there is now salt\slush on the roads, how safe is it to ride a carbon frame? The temps here are about the same as Wisconsin as we are further south but are still sub zero -22 degrees for you-alot of the time.Is there any issues from going warn to clod outside and then cold outside to warm inside. Are there expansion-contraction issues? I have an aluminum bike to ride but get a bit jonesy to ride my Madone. Thanks for your time in answering this for me.BTW- I contacted the manufacturer of another carbon bike I own 4 months ago,and still have not recieved an answer.
