Here are the facts on 64cm Madone bikes:
- Madone 5.1 bikes in size 64cm sold out very quickly. Admittedly, Trek underestimated the demand for big bikes. We won't do that again and plan to expand the line in 2009. We are not doing another production run of 2008 64cm Madones.
- The 5.1 was replaced with the 4.7, both having similar component spec. The reason the 5.1 is still on the trekbikes.com site is because we still have 5.1 bikes in smaller sizes in stock.
- 5.5 Madone bikes were originally slated to be OCLV White carbon but have since been upgraded to OCLV Black. 5.5 Madones are still available.
- Trek chooses to manufacture the most common size frames before the less common sizes. Hence, sizes 47cm and 64cm bikes will always be available after 56cm or 58cm bikes.
- Trek is the only company successfully making a full carbon bike in size 64cm.
- By late summer you will be able to custom build your 64cm bike in Project One. That means you choose the color and part spec in addition to getting a bike that finally fits your above average height.

I ordered a 5.5 64cm in August 2007. Are you telling me that your not going to produce any 64cm Madones in 2008? Is this why Trek removed the "(size 64cm in OCLV white)" from the description of the 5.5 64cm Madone? I thought Trek finally wanted to give riders what they were paying for in OCLV black.

Steve - What I'm tellin gyou is that 5.1 Madones in size 64cm are sold out. There may be some on dealer floors but Trek will not ship any more 64cm 5.1s to dealers. We still have 5.5 Madones in size 64cm. The 5.5 is made with OCLV Black.

I think I'm right between a 62cm and 64cm frame according to the frame fit stuff posted here. Is it possible for my local Trek dealer to get a 5.5 64cm demo bike for me to try out before ordering one?

I am tring to acquire a 6.9 madone performance. The dealer has told me to wait for the project one to be up and running. How long will I have to wait?

Julius - see the Project One Update post elsewhere within this blog for more information about P-One.

Matt Haughey asked about how to demo a bike, or more specifically 62 and 64cm bikes. The only ways I know to get this done are to either find a Trek dealer that has those bikes on their showroom floor or to check the schedule for the Ride the Best Demo Tour on the trekbikes.com site.

I will be happy with a 64c Madone in Model 4.7 trim--with a triple--I like Ultegra and 105 components. TCT Carbon saves me money. Thanks for the information.

You state that the 5.5 has been upgraded to "Black". Wasn't it always Black (the 5.2 is even Black)? The White Carbon doesn't come in until 5.1 or lower.

Andrew questions if the 5.5 was always OCLV Black. Yes it has been except for size 64cm. The 64 was originally OCLV White but it will be Black in the future.

This is a follow up question to KA's post regarding the 4.7.
I understand that TCT carbon is produced in Asia using a non OCLV process, but can someone provide an overview of the differences in ride quality - assuming there are any - like harshness, less stiff, increased weight (a given) - real world descriptions that set both carbons apart. Thanks!

Now that the seat mast has been modified,am i right in saying that the modified tall masts allow for 10mm extra length,so in theory a 62cm madone would now allow for max seat height of 87cm and because the 62cm & 64cm madone come with the same length fork steerer, the bars could be fitted at the same height on the 62cm with the use of spacers as the 64cm.I am just about to order a madone.

Will you be producing 64's in the 5.5? According to the folks at Wheat Ridge cyclery, you have a production run slated for 4/08? Also, will you be offering either the 6.5 or 6.9 in a 64 in 09?

Marco asks about the now 10mm longer length of the up-dated seat caps. The seat height/frame size chart located elsewhere in this blog, the trekbikes.com site and our catalog is accurate. The original caps were 10mm too short due to a tooling mishap. All 2008 Madones currently being shipped correspond directly to the sizing chart.

Is the new seatmast the one with the black clamp? My bike shop replaced my old one (the one with the chrome clamp) and set the height based on the marks on the seatpost. If the new mast is longer, should I lower my mast 10mm? I'd rather not have to go in for another fitting.
