Trek Bicycle is the official bike sponsor of L'Etape du Tour, a one day epic ride that follows one of the Tour de France race routes as its course. To further show our support of the Etape event Trek sent 30 employees to France to do the ride. Our group ran the full range of ablity and experience (any where from "I've never ridden in a group before" to a 13-time Ironman finisher) and covered all facets of Trek including factory workers up to Trek President John Burke.
This year's Etape course was stage 10 of the Tour, Pau to Hautacam. That was a 169km jaunt that took us nearly 9000 participants over two HC climbs. To cap it off the weather was less than perfect for most of the day. Unfortunately for most the chilly temps was the topic of discussion. Next time we hope to focus on the great views, lengthy climbs and descents and closed-to-traffic roads.
Trek organized a display booth to show our 2009 product. It seemed as if France had never seen Madone's in person with how packed the booth was. There were lots of wowwed folks walking around our space.
