It has been awhile since I have checked in and as the title of this post suggests, things have been crazy. Will Lance launch an assault on the Tour de France in an effort to increase his record to 8? I don't know yet but he sure is doing his due diligence. Over the last few weeks I have spent more time with Lance then I had in the previous 5 years that I have been at Trek. Hugely understated, it has been very interesting.
My most recent encounter with Lance was at the San Diego Low Speed Wind Tunnel followed up with a day at the Home Depot Center in LA, a beautiful wood cycling track. We were there to test Lance's aerodynamics on his new TTX. We used the Wind Tunnel to compare his numbers from his 2005 time trial position versus a new position that he worked with Steve Hed on. The Tunnel showed that his new position is faster. The next day we headed to the track to test those positions in a controlled, real world application. The track showed us that not only is his new position faster but more importantly it did not hinder his power output.
This was a huge project that required a lot of time and resources to make sure it all went to plan. Trek showed up in full force to help Lance with his position. We had three bikes, 2 engineers (Mark and Doug), plus Scott Daubert and myself. We were all there with the same goal; make Lance faster!

Check, Check, Triple Check. Yes, he is faster.....
