Jayne Parsons - Beijing Olympic hopeful

Check this out!

"When any athlete commits to participating in an International Event it is admired. But, when this challenge is compounded with a disability such as total blindness, the admiration becomes an inspiration.
Jayne Parsons became blind as a result of domestic violence, an otherwise hard working dedicated mother and wife, the violence took its toll and now Jayne deals with her blindness 24 hours a day. Rarely does a fully sighted athlete enjoy the personal fulfillment and achieve the goals that Jayne has achieved in her relatively short athletic career."

Trek at the Tour of California

For the first time in its three year history, Trek Bicycle made an expo presence at the Tour of California. Teams riding Trek bikes have won stages and the overall at the ToCA in the past. This year we put in a big effort to be more in touch with the public by having a booth space.

Set up and ready to go before the expo was officially open

The weather cooperated for the first half of the week.  The crowds were great.

Levi Leipheimer sees Waterloo

Levi was in town last week.  He spent much of the day with Trek president John Burke but made time to visit with others in the Trek workforce.  Before meeting with John, Levi and I toured the factory and stopped in to talk tech with Trek's Advanced Concept Group.

The ACG is partly responsible for Levi's low drag runs at San Diego's wind tunnel last February.  Damon Rinard explained how our CFD software is helping design several 2009 and beyond projects.  We also caught a glimpse of a radical TT bike design that's in the works.  Levi was sworn to secrecy on the spot so don't ask him for details.

"I have to say, I've been to a few manufacturers now and Trek is the most impressive." - Levi Leipheimer

Levi and I have a near year-old dispute that has yet to be settled.  I'm pretty sure I can dust him on a mountain bike and he thinks it will be the other way around.  He's got everything to lose in this situation (he's stood on the podium at the TdF so if a hack like me sticks it to him, it will be big news) but there was no time to ride during Levi's visit.  Next time.

Johan visits Trek HQ

Trek's president John Burke invited Johan Bruyneel to Trek HQ in Waterloo, WI after the Tour of Missouri.  The invitation was extended as a courtesy to Johan after our 9+ years of working with Johan's top notch cycling programs, namely USPS and Discovery Channel.  Johan had previously visited Trek in 2006 where he toured the factory and was given a liveSTRONG edition Madone 5.9.  On Johan's previous visit to Trek the team's history wall had not been completed so on this trip a considerable amount of time was spent reminiscing.  Johan's insight and behind the scenes comments were moving.
